wet parrot on perch

Hello!

My name is Tuca. I am a Senegal parrot. My great-great-grandbirds are from Africa, but I was hatched in Minnesota in June, 1999. I am a small parrot... kind of like a fat robin. I like to play in the water... at the left is a photo of me after a nice shower. Notice how nice my hairdo looks... I worked really hard to get it just right.

Here I am in my house. I don't think I have enough toys, do you?

Another after-shower photo. Don't I look pretty in the sunlight?

Tuca with bare neck2005 was kind of an exciting year for me. In June, as my humans were packing to go on a week-long trip to the Boundary Waters (a wilderness area on the Minnesota/Canada boundary), I flew out the open garage door and into the wild!

My hoomans, Teresa and Bruce, cancelled their vacation, and spent the next 11 days looking for me. They got up every morning at 4:30 and put out my cage, with fresh food and all of my favorite treats, in case I was in the neighborhood. Then they went walking all over the neighborhood, calling my name and looking for me. The neighbors thought they were nuts! But on the 11th day, a nice lady called and said that she had found me in her back garden in St. Louis Park, which is 4 miles from my home. Here is a page that tells a bit more about my adventure.

After I came back, I slept a lot for the first few days. I had lost a lot of feathers under my neck; you can see that in the photo at the left. The feathers on the back of my head were missing, too. I also lost a lot of weight, because I couldn't find any food out there! I sure was glad to come home. At the right is a photo of me and my humommy on my Sixth Hatchday, June 23, 2005. We both sure were happy that I came home!

Since then, life has been pretty good. I hope you enjoy the photos on this and the other pages in my website. Thanks for stopping by my web page; if you want to send a note to my hoomans, please

Oh, and there are even more pages with photos of me when I was younger... just follow the links at the bottom of this page.

I just LOVE to chew on phone books! It makes a mess, though...

Look at the mess I made in just one day!
